Let’s Talk About Bowel Cancer: April is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month

At The Uplands Medical Practice in Bury, we’re proud to support Bowel Cancer Awareness Month this April. 💙
Bowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the UK — but if caught early, it’s very treatable. That’s why raising awareness, encouraging people to know the symptoms, and supporting regular screening is so important.
What Are the Symptoms to Watch Out For?
It’s important to listen to your body. Symptoms of bowel cancer can include:
- Persistent blood in your poo
- Changes in your bowel habits (like going more or less often)
- Unexplained weight loss
- Tummy pain or bloating after eating
- Feeling very tired without a clear reason
Most of the time, these symptoms are caused by something less serious — but it’s always better to check. Early detection saves lives.
👉 If you notice any of these symptoms, don’t delay — book an appointment with us.
Bowel Cancer Screening Saves Lives
In England, everyone aged 60 to 74 is automatically invited for NHS bowel cancer screening every 2 years — and the programme is gradually expanding to include people aged 50 and over.
The test is simple, discreet, and can be done at home. If you’ve received a bowel cancer screening kit, don’t put it off — it could make all the difference. 📬
