Back-to-School Health Tips for September

Posted by: philippa - Posted on:

As summer winds down and September approaches, many families are getting ready for the new school year. At Uplands Medical Practice, we know this can be a busy and sometimes stressful time, so here are some simple health tips to help your children start the school term feeling their best.

1. Keep Vaccinations Up to Date 💉

Vaccinations are a safe and effective way to protect your child from serious illnesses. If you’re unsure whether your child is up to date with their immunisations, contact us and we’ll be happy to check their records.

2. Support Healthy Routines 🛏️🍎

After the long summer break, it can take time to get back into a school routine. Aim for:

  • Regular bedtimes so children are well rested
  • Balanced meals and snacks to fuel their day
  • Limited screen time before bed for better sleep quality

3. Beat the Bugs 🦠✋

Schools can be a hotspot for coughs, colds, and tummy bugs. Encourage your child to:

  • Wash their hands regularly
  • Use tissues when sneezing or coughing
  • Stay home if they’re unwell, to help prevent spreading illness

4. Look After Mental Health 💛

The start of term can bring excitement – but also anxiety. Talk openly with your child about any worries they may have, and remind them it’s normal to feel nervous about change. If you’re concerned, our team can support you.
